Issues and Background

Addressing International labor and migration are important global issues because not only women and children are being exploited but immigrants are also being abused. In the US and all around the world Immigrants are paid extremely less and unfairly because they don’t know what is a good average daily wage. Immigrant workers are forced to work in unsafe places such as mines, railroads, and buildings. The women and children are forced into Manuel and Domestic Labor. The children are forced to work up to twenty hours a day of hard Manuel labor, Prostitution etc. The immigrants get abused and beaten because of their nationality and background. Most importantly the young children get their dreams stolen, they don’t get a fulfilling youth, and they don’t get any education at all. “An estimated 218 million children aged 5-17 are engaged in child labor, excluding domestic labor.” – Unicef. “The Asian and pacific regions harbor the largest number of child workers in the 5-24 age group, 127.3 million in total (19 percent of children work in the region). “In China thousands of children live too far from the nearest school to pursue an education. This is particularly true of girls and young women, who are expected to stay home and tend house and fields.”Do you really want the world you live in to be a place where not only Immigrants are abused and treated poorly but the children forced into hard labor with no education?

Labor affects the world very much, and in a very negative way. People get paid a little money for doing a hard work and working hard on the fields the whole day. Over time they save some money and send it back to their family which is ruining the country’s economic structure. It’s not fair because some people are paid a lot of money for doing nothing in an office but others are getting paid so little as 1$ per week for working hard outside. It’s an abuse and violation of human rights. NGO’s like UNESCO are working on these issues here in Shanghai and here it is the problem of people taking other peoples jobs. Farmers come from outside of the rich cities to get a job and make money they can’t get in their home province or city. In America, there are a lot of people from Mexico who illegally cross the border in order to get a better job that gets them money. Then they get an American driving license so they wouldn’t have problems if someone asks them if they’re American. Problems like these are all over the world and it is very unfair because why should someone else get to choose if you will get paid less just because of where you’re from?
